Thinking of adding a little flair to your walls with wallpaper, but don’t know where to start? This handy guide will help you narrow down where you might want that pop of pattern.
First, you have to figure out if you like to have more calm empty spaces, or if you lean a little more maximalist.
If you like your spaces calmer…
Don’t commit to four walls of a room covered in wallpaper. You may like:
-
Back of shelves
A little peek behind the books and decor that adds a patterned touch.
-
Stair Risers
A hint of something special that’ll put a pep on your steps!
-
Accent wall
A classic way to liven up a little area without overwhelming the space. It’s a different way of bringing little bit of art into a room.
If you like your spaces loud…
Don’t go small, go big! Do something as out of the box as you are, like:
-
Ceiling
This is the most daring option. This is best suited when pairing with painted walls and the wallpaper — or ceiling paper you could say — becomes a piece of art that goes with the rest of the colours of the walls. -
Dining Room
Wallpaper can add a bit of luxury to a space where you may entertain guests! Imagine the cinematic atmosphere that beautiful wallpaper brings to a delicious meal with candlelight.
-
Cozy basement
Putting up wallpaper in the basement is a great way to use it for a full room without the novelty of the wallpaper wearing off. You won’t see it day to day, but you’ll love it if you have a cozy movie night downstairs.
If you want something in the middle…
Go somewhere in the middle to test it out.
-
Powder Room
A small bathroom with less wall space will let you try out wallpaper on a much smaller scale and then you can see if you would want it in a bigger space.
-
In a nook
In a similar fashion, having a patterned paper mark off a section of a room to distinguish it is a step up from accent wall, but still feel closer to an accented space. If you have a window bench that carves up its own little slice of the room, maybe give it a little pizzazz!
-
In a room with many windows
If the windows in a room already take up so much of the walls, then adding a little pop of pattern in between doesn’t feel as overwhelming as a whole wall.
I used Hygge and West wallpaper for an accent wall, and they have a visualizer if you want to see what wallpaper will look like in your walls too!
